Prayer Worthier

Ever do I care to pray indeed?
What and how is that, if yes?
And, why should I pray after all?

When I feel fulfilled enough
Complete, complacent and sufficient
No need of growing anymore!

What is your best prayer to the Divine?
Is ‘Let Thy will be done.’?
No doubt the highest kind, if yes!

But my ‘I’ can fancy to play with this,
Can find an escape route
And use the phrase for my sake!

How strange, nay dangerous
That, I can make it a golden mask
And veil my Self from me and others!

True prayer evolves and grows only with
The growth of mine, yours and theirs;
Isn’t it well known to all?

How it would be if I pray like
‘Make me healthier, wealthier and worthier’
It feels a bit mundane; nearer!

But isn’t this phrase risky too, if
I remove ‘worthier’ from the other two?
Then my ‘I’ can distend like a balloon to…!

Make me worthier is rather safe
Nay safer, safest even!
’Cause ‘worthier’ covers everything else!

Pray for ‘make me worthier’ to pray
‘Let Thy will be done
And always the best happen!’

Make me and all others, O Lord!
Worthier and worthier to be able to pray
‘Let Thy will be done!’

My Morning Musings

·                                                                                                                       Being Worthier Is Life

Ø  Changing for the better and being worthier is an all time answer!

Ø  If healthier and wealthier, the very next step must be to be worthier!

Ø  If not so healthy and wealthy, there’s no option without going all-out to be worthy.

Ø  Without being worthier there’s little meaning of being healthier and wealthier.
Ø  A true healthier and wealthier tends to be a true worthier.

Ø  A worthier participation in the ever evolving cosmic play is spirituality.

Making Mistakes, Committing Crimes

Ø  Mistakes made by mistake are genuine mistakes; but mistakes committed deliberately, frequently and systematically turn to be crimes.

Ø  Mistakes are made either by mistake or sometimes knowingly with the responsibility of risk, not to justify but to confess and surpass!

Ø  Making mistakes knowingly to explore and experience a truth can be under your control; but committing them knowingly may not be so.

Ø  A mistake, if unheeded, may lead one to make or commit a series of them fuelling to even perpetrate crimes until caught!

Ø  One can heal mistakes made by mistake, mistakes committed deliberately need costly and critical operations; but crimes are terminal cases cure of which is uncertain.

Ø  Any misuse or excess, illicit and exclusive use of the three ‘most attractive’ but highly inflammable and explosive forces – money, sex and power, gives rise to such serious blunders which burns one alive to ashes.

Ø  A mistake remains a mistake unless made a stepping stone.

Ø  What is a mistake?
A mistake is perceived and defined in relation to:
              the life,
              the world,
              the aim of life,
              the path of life,
              the style of life,
              the choice of life,
              the quality of life,
              the thought-speech-action-determination,
              the law of the land,
              the Nature’s law,
              the Law Omniscient,

A Core Dear

Dear our Chunny!
For parents their child you know
Must always be a honey.

No matter, you’re a person responsible
Can choose, do and decide
Can walk your unique way all along
But why do parents not stop their concern?!

You may win a Nobel or two
May have all the power, name and fame
Earn a lot
But back home
You’re a dear child to them!

It’s not to think little of the person you’re
It’s a cordless cord of care
Started since the big bang ever
Or far, far before!

What they wish their child to be?
One among the bests
Hale and hearty
Free from strain, free from stain!
Does this feel like a chain?

They value the both
Presence here, your presence there as well
Near or far you are core to them all!

Words About Oneself

What is my style and substance of life?  A trillion dollar question indeed!

Out of various self expressions, ways of writing about oneself can also be many – an auto-biography, a diary, even a collection of letters or anecdotes. Some even like to shape it obliquely by auto-biographical stories, novels or even poems!

Why to write about oneself? For, isn't it an inherent urge in all to express? Hasn't this a major role to play in one’s self-fulfillment? Doesn't this reveal the diversity of life in the world? Again, do you do this utterly for you or for others also? As you are unique so also you are essentially they and they are essentially you; so isn't it difficult to go without sharing oneself anyway? After all we are living in an ever evolving world order which make us to express.

Now the immediate question is, can and should I express and expose anything and everything in my life? No, not possible, not even necessary. But this is also not a straight answer, issuing a license to excuse and escape oneself! You have to make a choice taking care of the context with a harmonious play of absolute and relative! You may have to even write a whole book to answer the question.

Although we live in an ever evolving world order we all are not at the same level of its maturity. Therefore we care for others’ impression, others’ approach, others’ reaction, others’ behavior, others’ understanding in relation to our own life and accordingly we express or expose ourselves. It’s to remember that to carelessly express or expose oneself and to fearlessly express or expose oneself are distinctly two different things. Fearlessness as we know involves a different kind of responsibility. It values both – the action and the reaction, although a tough challenge!

Then of course there’s my intention which gives substance to what I am going to write about me. Why, how and what I intend to write when and where? How far am I true to myself and to others?

Happenings in one’s life can be explained in myriad ways. Mainly it depends on how the person from childhood has led his life and how basing on all experiences he perceives life and the world in particular and in general. Thus you make your own pattern.

When you look back to your life, you find a number of turning points there. Had they been otherwise you would have become a different person altogether. You dreamt to be a person like that; but you have been quite something different now! Why such things like fictions happen in life? Is it due to the play of various forces in life at different levels, and how we are aware of and connected to them? If yes, then the forces, the awareness and the connection create a basis for numerous factors to refer to the results?

In that case, can we imagine a person writing more than one autobiography? Is it possible? Is it impossible even if we don’t see someone so far? Why not autobiographies, if many biographies of the same person can be written from different angles? You looked into your life this way and wrote your 1st autobiography this way. If you can make yourself to look into your life that way you write your 2nd autobiography that way too!

Maybe those who are connected to their centers within and the same essential without can do impossible possible. Or else an incoherent split person can do the hilarious task of writing auto-biographies. Usually one can only write a comprehensive autobiography with at best chances of upgrading it further and/or a complete fiction taking cues and clues from turning points of life that could have been otherwise as you imagine.

Life is there to explore life and lead, giving it a style and a substance! Amen!!

That Way Of Giving A Name

It’s after all a name – one single name, of somebody or something, animate or inanimate.

What’s there so special in giving a child, a pet, a home you reside, an institution a name? Does this have any impact? Does this create any impression? Does this define something about someone or something? Is it capable of relating, remembering, or stimulating your imagination? Answers can be in affirmative and/or in negative.

We can do without a name of a pet or our residence. But no human individual in the world is without a name! For, it’s basic to identify someone by a name. Our names help us to sign, register, attest, certify, clarify and prove a point. Pragmatically, name assumes significance at least for us humans.

An adult may not have much to do with his or her name; but a child, a growing personality, has. It contributes a lot in shaping their self esteem, self-faith. They don’t want to be bullied or ridiculed among peers by their names given by parents! Meaningful names make them feel proud. And, interestingly, we see adults changing their names for various reasons! Thus names and for that matter name-giving do have major roles to play.

The name-giving tradition both in lesser and major cultures of India is as old as its civilization itself. It’s indeed a festival like special occasion involving people to observe with a lot of family and community rituals and with a deep feeling of belongingness. Name-giving ceremonies and celebrations vary from culture to culture and time to time. Also, we see how contemporary name trends and patterns evolve depicting generational gaps. Like inter-cultural, now even global relations determine name and name-giving trends and patterns. A purely Indian baby today may have a Chinese or French name and vice versa!

Priests, respectable persons of the family, close relatives and friends, teachers, community or organizational heads are generally entrusted to give name to a child, a pet or an institution. The name is accepted by all the concerned.

When entrusted to give a name how would you think and feel about it? You must take note of various conditions like time, culture, people concerned, necessity, future implication, heredity and other contexts before proposing a name. But in many cases the assignee’s emotion and complacency rule the roost.

Whatever the name, name giving is well settled when the rightful or any hierarchy takes charge of the activity. Gladly or willy-nilly, others have to accept. The authority of parents to name their child is obvious. When the highest authority in politics, industry or bureaucracy name an institution, that gets final. Sometimes people without any portfolio are also asked for to give a name, may be for the sake of inclusiveness, acceptability, equality or some other good reasons.

It’s when more people are engaged to propose a name the task gets tougher! Every single person with many ideas, emotions and expectations comes with a name to propose and get accepted. Here, all those involved in the whole process must have to reach at a consensus to opt a name by priority and broad-based context. Otherwise, take resort to voting.

Those who nurture an emotion to name someone or something and wish to be accepted among others they, instead of a single name, prepare a list of them and propose. Here’s a more possibility of getting accepted than rejected. It can be more interesting if you are the only proposer. Because, you with a name list give the party a chance to make their own choice! You involve the party in the process and make them feel they have also given the name.

Ultimately, who has given the name? Ah, how wonderful!

Sometimes so happens, the party concerned may stumble at more than one out of the list and again seek your advice. You finally give one to settle the matter. Thus name giving becomes an activity of mutual love and respect – isn’t it a ceremony and celebration?

01.01.2012

I am not a kind of person routinely sending new-year greetings to all friends and relatives. But this time I thought to wish almost all who found a place in my call-list. I jumped to the idea since when my daughter gave me the clue how using internet I could preset time and send group SMS at once.

On 31.12.2011 afternoon I asked Chunnie to help me work for the mission. After she preset 25 mobile numbers for SMS to be automatically sent at midnight, the system refused to accept further. We left there and I decided to do this all next morning. I got up early on 01.01.2012 and little later woke up Chunnie, my daughter, only to discover the SMS greetings we set yesterday not being sent at midnight! Then taking cue from her I sat firm before the PC to send them one by one to everybody.

I started sending messages from names with alphabet ‘A’. Interestingly, the person whose name always came first in my call-list was many ways very dear to me! As a friend-brother and mentor he had a significant role to play in my school life. We are still intimately connected today. He was Abhinna Ch. Patra who needed a special and separate mention. Failed on the first attempt I sent him the new-year wish directly from the mobile.

Except few household breaks and frequent internet interruptions I sat before the computer from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. today sending greetings one by one. I never glued myself to the system as much as today; but I felt this was really irritating for others. Although I too got impatient due to frequent internet interruptions I stuck to the task to finish it anyhow. Mami (my wife) and Chunnie sent their remarks more than once but in vain. I said them to bear with me as this was for the first time ever I was sending new-year greetings to several friends and relatives at a time. They watched TV, Chunnie was from time to time buzzing though. But I was encouraged by new-year wishes from friends while I was sending SMS.

In fact the Odia new-year started from Maha Visub Sankranti with great festivity. January 1 was not a new-year’s day for all. So I, like many others, preferred either to wish or not to wish showing these external gestures although the real goodwill was always there. However January 1 has been universal and accepted widely. This has successfully adapted to local trends and existed side by side with native new-years. Isn’t it that of descending The Kingdom of God upon earth?

Today morning Rabi Mohanty came to present The Mother’s calendars and diaries as his routine new-year wish. Ramesh Behera one of my friends came with his family to share few times with us in the afternoon. In the evening Jayant another family friend also visited with his son to gift us something. There were new-year phone calls and SMS from a hoard of other friends too. All this was indeed a kind of making oneself happy by wishing others to be happy.

Sitting for hours before the PC it was essential I should have a refreshing feel outside. I tagged this to a    walk to Sri Aurobindo Bhawan for meditation at the shrine. Jayant was happy to accompany me. Back home I tried to reflect myself a bit about the past and the present before going to bed. Peace, peace, peace to all.
